Pleasantly Suprised

Friday, October 23rd, 2009 by Roto Rooter Bloggers

I am always surprised when a customer calls telling us that they did not know that Roto-Rooter is a full service plumbing company. They think of us as just a sewer and drain cleaning company. The fact is that as Memphis plumbing companies go, Roto-Rooter is among the biggest and best in the area. If you need a skilled Memphis plumber, call us!

A traditional sewer line excavationA customer Ms. Jones, recently had some drain problems in her home. When Roto-Rooter of Memphis service technician, Felix, came to her home and diagnosed the problem, he discovered that a simple sewer cleaning wouldn't fix the problem. Unfortunately, it was very old and entire sections of it had collapsed underground. We did a video camera inspection and showed her the problems over a TV monitor. She needed a complete sewer line replacement. No customer likes to hear that sort of news because any way you do it, a sewer replacement is expensive.

Ms. Jones was very surprised to find out that Roto-Rooter of Memphis could handle the complete excavation and pipe replacement. We do these jobs all the time and our expertise is second to none. The next day, we dug up the old pipe and replaced it with a new, modern sewer that will serve her well for years to come.

HAPPY CUSTOMER

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 by Roto Rooter Bloggers

Recently, we received a call at the Roto-Rooter in Memphis from Ms. Wilson. She was searching for a Memphis plumber who could also handle sewer repairs. She had to have her sewer pipe replaced but she didn't want to use just any old Memphis plumbing company. She was looking for specific expertise.

She was hesitant to have the digging done as the plumber would have to do some major excavation in her newly landscaped front yard. Roto-Rooter gave her several options, including trenchless excavation, which leaves almost no sign that any work was being done below ground.

Ms. Wilson was so happy with the work our plumbing technicians (Bret and Dan) did on her Memphis sewer repair but she was also thrilled with the good condition in which we left her yard!

Its always great to hear from a happy customer who says they will recommend Roto-Rooter to her friends and family!

My Dishwasher is Not Draining

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009 by Ray Lee Master Plumbers

Many times a dishwasher will click into the drain cycle, but when it is finished running, the dishwasher is still full of water. This is a common occurence and our staff of West Memphis plumbers are more than capable of assisting if needed.

There are two things that control the discharge of water from the dishwasher – the pump and the screen in front of the pump. If the pump motor is bad, no water will be removed from the dishwasher. And if the screen is completely clogged, then no water can get to the pump impeller.

If the line is not clogged, you will need a very good "handy man" or an appliance tech to come out and fix the problem. If the line is clogged, you can call your local Roto-Rooter to fix this plumbing repair by clearing your West Memphis plumbing line to the dishwasher.

A Kitchen Sink Solution

Thursday, August 20th, 2009 by Ray Lee Master Plumbers

A customer wrote in after going through 3 water faucets in less than a year. The water would stop flowing out of the faucet but the sprayer functioned normally. Through much trial and error they still remained stumped; the water was working but would not go through the faucet nozzles. Surely, they are not the only ones who have been struggling with sink plumbing issues of this nature.

From past experience with kitchen plumbing jobs, this is fairly common.  It sounds like there is probably a lot of debris in the water.  As debris flows through the aerator at the end of the faucet it begins to block the tiny holes to mix the air and water, which creates a soft stream of water.

A couple of suggestions:

  • Try removing the aerator from the end of the spout and clean it out.
  • Installation of a sand filter on the supply lines to the faucet/ house.

Aerators are little strainers screwed into the end of faucets. They can be removeded by unthreading counterclockwise. At the back end of the strainer there is a very small opening designed to restrict the flow of water to conservation standards and to insert air to help prevent water from splashing. They commonly can get clogged, which reduces the pressure available to the faucet. It is a good idea to clean the aerators annually to improve the functionality of your faucet.
