"Mr. Lal Puia was a good service technician. He arrived on time and did a thorough job on my kitchen plumbing job and provided us a free estimate for some bathroom plumbing problems that we want him to fix in the near future. As his boss, I wanted to let you know that he was very pleasant and is a good representative for your company. Roto-Rooter is my new Washington, DC plumber."

This was a fun little letter to receive from a local business here in DC. Commercial plumbing can be tricky but Roto-Rooter is equipped to deal with any and all commercial plumbing jobs from toilet repairs to water heater replacement to complete sewer repair and everything in between.
"Service was very good. Roto-Rooter sent out one of their Washington DC plumbers

to take a look at a problem we were having with our commercial grade
water heaters. We have two and as luck would have it, both stopped making hot water on the same day. What are the chances? Anyway, your man looked them over for several minutes with me looking over his shoulder the entire time. He tried a few different things before figuring out the problem. It turned out to be a simple fix but while he was there, he was very thorough and discovered another unrelated problem that was a carbon monoxide hazard and he took care of it in no time and for what I consider to be a fair price for his expertise."
Safety is our most important concern both for our service technicians and our customers.

Roto-Rooter receives inquiries regarding low water pressure all the time. Before you search, "plumber DC," "plumber Houston" (fill in the blank city), there are some ways you can test your water pressure.
If you have
cleaned the aerators in the faucets and the shower heads, and you still have a low water pressure problem, it could be valve not properly opening. Old style gate valves have a problem getting stuck in the closed position. Even though it seams like the valve is open (because the inside threads allow the stem to continue turning up to the top of the threads) the valve is closed. Inside each gate valve there is a tapered round disk that fits into a tapered slot. When it's all the way down, the valve is shut off. When it lifts up, the valve is open.
If the valve hasn't been closed in many years, calcium builds up on the ground face of the slot as the water passes over it. When you close the brass gate, it gets stuck on the brass-casting slot and leaves the gate in place. Once this happens, you have to replace the valve, which is a minor plumbing repair.
You can test this by opening a faucet in one room of the house, then have someone open another faucet in another part of the house. If the pressure drops, either a gate valve or the galvanized pipes in the home have to be replaced (because they are full of calcium and minerals). If there is no drop in pressure, it may be a clogged strainer, shower head or other flow restrictors.
