Upon arriving at a local manufacturing plant, we were on a mission to find a strong odor coming from somewhere. After looking in the front office restrooms and checking all floor

drains, mainlines, and restrooms in the warehouse, no odors were found.
Then we went up on the roof to check the vent stack. It turned out that the wind was blowing in the exact direction towards the HVAC intake, which pushed some of the sewer gas down into the ladies' restroom in the office area. The customer seemed thankful that we solved the mystery. He called two other Columbus plumbers who were unable to find the source of the odor.
The smell disapeared after the wind changed direction and we recommended raising the vent stack 3 feet above the HVAC intake. The customer will be calling us back soon with a decision. Who would image something like that.
Roto-Rooter is a full service
Columbus plumber. We occasionally get calls like the one above where we have to solve a mystery. It keeps things interesting.

We were called out to diagnose a problem with a commercial water heater, and as it turns out there was a problem with their roof mounted HVAC unit. After some testing, two of our Columbus plumbers figured out that the HVAC unit was sending large blasts of air that kept blowing out the gas flame. The pilot light just would not stay lit. Another mystery solved by your number one Columbus plumber. Stranger things have happened.
There are lots of Columbus plumbing companies but nobody is better than Roto-Rooter when it comes to solving mysterious plumbing problems. We handle thousands of local plumbing jobs each year, in addition to taking care of clogged drains and sewer repair work. Call us if you need us at 614-351-0455.

Camera inspection is essentially the only method to determine if tree roots have reached the pipe lines of a home. This is becoming a prerequisite of buying an older home and is definitely recommended by many Columbus plumbers, especially when large trees are involved.
If the house you are planning to purchase is less then 30 years old, you most likely have a plastic sewer. But, this is not guaranteed and a major reason for camera inspection. The inspection only takes about a half hour and the sewer cleaning usually takes place in the basement.
If a camera inspection is not an option before purchase, ask for an escrow of the amount to reline or replace the sewer to be put into the contract. Most definitely do the inspection after your home purchase if you were unable to do one prior. If the sewer line is good then they will get their money back. If the sewer line is bad and the sellers know it is then they probably won't agree to an escrow. In most contracts they can't knowingly deceive you.

Columbus plumbers for Roto-Rooter were pretty busy the past few days, as were their fellow service technicians throughout Ohio and much of the country. Frozen pipes continue to plague residential plumbing and commercial plumbing due to this Arctic blast. Kitchen plumbing jobs are amassing because kitchen water lines usually run through outside walls and can freeze if not well insulated.
Roto-Rooter's Columbus, Ohio Branch had to purchase additional pipe thawing equipment Friday just to keep up with demand. As frustrating as frozen pipes can be, the real problems will begin when the temperatures rise and frozen pipes start thawing and spewing water. That's when our phones will really start ringing. This type of plumbing repair can be challenging and may require a pro. Tip: Find your main water shut-off valve so you will know how to turn off water if one of your pipes bursts.
