Some pipe materials are more susceptible to root intrusion than others. Clay tile pipes are easily penetrated and damaged by tree roots. Whereas concrete and PVC pipes may also allow root intrusion, but to a lesser degree than clay. PVC pipes usually have fewer joints, which are tightly fitted and less likely to leak as a result of settlement around a pipe.
